In these parts, small businesses are cherished. One can’t throw a stone without hitting someone who works for, owns or needs the services of a small business.

But don’t. It's tough enough out there. According to a National Association for the Self-Employed study conducted early this year, 60 percent of self-employed and micro-businesses (defined as 10 or less employees) reported a significant decrease in sales and/or revenue since 2008.

Latter-day Saints Church Plans on Hold

ArizonaWest Contracting has stationed a trailer on Anthem Way and Daisy Mountain Road in anticipation of groundbreaking on a Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church. However, Project Manager Colton Taylor told In&Out the slightly less than 17,000-square-foot-facility has been on hold for more than six months.

Encore Plea for Performance Space

Plans for a new multi-purpose center in Anthem may yet hit the drawing board. By a 5-2 vote, the Anthem Community Council agreed at its June 23 meeting to request proposals from architectural firms to work with the planning committee on “identifying capital project priorities.” The move gave renewed hope to arts groups—thwarted in their repeated efforts over the years to find a permanent Anthem home.
