Anthem Community Council Chief Executive Officer Jenna Kollings will be launching several community-wide initiatives to conserve Anthem’s green spaces—with an emphasis on raising public awareness about the importance of these natural areas. On July 28, Council approved a community-wide approach to include education, awareness, fire prevention, stewardship and—take note—legal enforcement.

“I feel like I’m getting squeezed out of Anthem,” she said. Young has rented for four years, but this time around, she reported, it’s down right difficult to find a clean, affordable home. An Anthem resident since 2003, her former house is one of many that foreclosed in the housing bubble.

We did (and do) have our share of distressed properties, but the foreclosures have started dwindling. As real estate agents, banks and sellers got the hang of short sales, investors saw the situation as an opportunity. Rather than going back to the bank, many of these homes were short-sold and turned into rental properties, creating cash-flow. Today, foreclosures are only 12 percent of the Anthem market and are selling pretty quickly. But that’s only part of the story.
